What would it be like if there was no Christmas?
No doubt it would be a huge financial loss for many businesses. People wouldn’t be frustrated trying to decide on the perfect gift and December would be less busy from all the preparations.
Each year more than 3 billion Christmas cards are sent in the U.S…... That’s a lot of Christmas Cards, and I wonder how many of these cards leave out the true meaning of Christmas. If there were no Christmas the loss would not only be financial, but spiritual; the loss would be worldwide.
“For there is born to you this day...a Saviour who is Christ the Lord.” (Lk. 2:11) “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son...” (Jn. 3:16). God loved and sent us a Saviour to bring to us God’s revelation of Himself. “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” (Isa. 9:2)
The light that replaced the darkness was a child, the Christ Child.
If there was no Christmas the world would be much different than it is today. If Jesus didn’t come to earth, much of the good that we see today would be missing, while much of the evil would be even greater. As baby Jesus was lying in a manager and wrapped in cloths to keep him warm, a host of angels declared “...peace on earth, goodwill toward men.” (Lk. 2:14) When we believe and welcome Jesus the Saviour of the world into our lives we become the recipients of God’s perfect peace and His special grace.
What would it be like if there was no Christmas? We would never experience God “so” loving us that he came to give us the perfect gift of salvation. With this gift comes His peace and goodwill.
